Best Tweezers Ever!

Now I know that tweezing is really not about alternative cosmetic products offered, but if you're like me, you have been searching for a pair of tweezers that are going to last and actually work for a long time.
I have always had to pluck hairs off my face since my early twenties, and since I refuse to pay for waxing, chemical solvents, or threading, plucking has always been the best alternative, knowing it can be a bitch and time consuming as all hell.
But, with these tweezers the chore of removing facial hair is not as grueling as it is with other inferior tweezing products.

So, look no further because now there is finally a pair out there that are actually worth buying.

Distributed by Bobby Brown Cosmetics, this is a great pair that are made so precisely you could actually tear at skin, so make sure you are delicate at first, and the reason why they're so precise is because these tweezers are made by a watch company, Rubis of Switzerland.

They are $30 retail, but if you're like me, you are going to want the easiest pluck and the best results, as this pair will definitely leave you glad you spent this kind of money.

Thirty bucks is pretty freakin steep for a measly pair of tweezers, but if you've been searching for something better, and works when you want it to, this is it. No longer will you have to work on getting that one hair your regular tweezers just refuse to grab until it grows more, because this pair easily gets the thickest or finest hairs.

One thing I should mention is that these tweezers are calibrated a very specific way, so unfortunately once they get dropped to the floor and make that dink sound, they get
un-calibrated and can stop working as efficiently as before, so make sure not to drop them for the best pluck possible.

As someone that has been searching for years for a better pluck, I am absolutely assured I have finally been able to find a product that gives me that, and I hope you take the opportunity to find out exactly why Bobby Brown's tweezers are truly the best tweezing product available out there.

Most retailers sell them that sell Bobby Brown Cosmetic products such as Dillard's, Macy's, or Sephora I guess if you're desperate.

Well any who, good luck with plucking away those hairs with more ease now, and in also finding great alternative beauty products, because we all deserve to know what's in the products we use and to have a happy, healthy and beautiful life.

If you happen to find a product you think is better, message me or comment, so I can review it.
Also please let me know if you try out the product, and how you liked it too by messaging or commenting below.

Dear Fellow New Mexican

Dear Fellow New Mexican,
I am writing to you today in hopes that you will read and listen to what it is I have to say to you specifically about labeling genetically modified foods here in New Mexico. This year in 2013, Senator Peter Wirth (Democrat-Santa Fe) will propose an amendment to the New Mexico Food Act to start labeling GMO products, which he calls a “common sense consumer information” issue and concern. For the first time ever, New Mexico and you, will have the opportunity to set the bar on what information is more accessible for consumers, in order to make better decisions with consumer products, because honestly most of us don’t even know what GMO’s are, or that they can be bad for us to consume.

First off, please don’t think that I am going to babble on to you about what foods YOU should be eating (because I like meats and sweets just like anyone else) and I’m not going to indulge into some hippie conspiracy propaganda about how the government might be poisoning us, okay.

I just want you to know the straight facts about GMO labeling!

What GMO’s are, why they need labeling, and also that we as a state and country need to start acknowledging our American freedoms and rights again; and to simply know, or to be able to easily access accurate information about consumer products, especially regarding the food that is consumed by everyone in this country, including you and me.

To tell you the truth, a few years ago I had no idea what GMO’s were, or that GMO’s had been in the food I had been eating since I was a kid. And up until a few years ago I had no issues with the food that I ate; but then I started to get debilitating stomach aches and problems, and was constantly in discomfort after every single time I ate a meal. Unfortunately I, along with most other poor college students in New Mexico, cannot afford health insurance, and I was sick of feeling sick every day, so I started to research different diets. And I came to find one of the most shocking revelations I have ever had; and that is how most food is produced and made today, but especially how food is regulated here in America. I've always had the usual vegan friends try to explain why meat is bad and why organic is good, but no one had ever explained to me what GMO’s were and why they are in our food in the first place, so I had to find out for myself.

GMO’s are technically called Genetically Modified Organisms which are defined as “An organism whose genetic characteristics have been altered by the insertion of a modified gene, or a gene from another organism using the techniques of genetic engineering. Organisms that have been genetically modified include micro-organisms such as bacteria and yeast, insects, plants, fish, and mammals.” A Closer Look explains a little better that “Scientists today have the ability to modify the genetic makeup of plants and animals, and even to transfer genes from one species to another. Not since nuclear power, has a technology been so controversial, with opponents concerned about the creation of so-called Franken-foods, and proponents promising a better tomorrow through science”. But are GMO’s and Bio-technology companies giving us, this better tomorrow that was promised now, or are they ruining the agricultural and food markets, as well as the eco-system throughout the world with modified foods that can harm us?

One thing I would like to get across to you more than anything; is that it has been ingrained into all of us, that the current-day food laws here exist to protect us from getting sick or making sure food is not bad for us to consume, and is a completely false impression of how things actually work. This is a misconception that we all need to snap out of, and see that the information about food produced in America is polluted, because of the demand for easier and cheaper food products, at times without regard for human or environmental health. I had assumed as many people have, that the FDA tests each product at least once before it goes out for people to buy, and that is not the case at all. The FDA actually doesn't work like that, and by law, companies only have to submit VOLUNTARY safety studies to the FDA for approval; furthermore the FDA does not conduct any studies on genetically modified foods, and approves foods based on in company studies only. Also there have never been any long term studies done on humans consuming Genetically Modified foods (Scientists under Attack).

I’m sure you are wondering by now why they’re putting this crazy stuff in our food? The reasons why GMO crops have become the world’s major source of food in the last two decades are simple, because of mass yield and profit. But other reasons why GMO crops were apparently better are because they are made to be herbicide, pesticide, and weather or environment tolerant, as well as pest resistant, disease resistant, and could potentially feed the billions of people living on the planet. These are really admirable changes and advances to the technology of bio agriculture. But at the same time there are many things in this world that are being affected by these changes, including people, animals, and insects, in addition to our seemingly untainted food, water, and soil sources, as well as how our environment is affected by these radical alterations in agriculture throughout America and the world.

In many other countries right now, GMO crops have been banned, and the world’s largest food producers, have been and are now being sued by entire countries for the devastation that their populations, regions, and crops have suffered, since being forced and or coerced to use GMO seeds and pesticides. Not to mention the health concerns of messing with the genetic code of food that we eat without the proper study and testing.

I could go on all day about the effects and newer studies that have occurred since GMO crops began, because there really are so many things affected by this technology including all of our health and well-being, but I am sure you don’t have that kind of time to hear me go on, so instead I will just ask you this; Don’t you think that we all deserve to know what is being put in our food and crops without our knowledge?

Labeling these new technologies in food, beginning in New Mexico, is a great common sense idea and is a good start to educating ourselves about our food. I hope that you please take the time for yourself, and find out why we need to care about what is being manufactured into the foods we all consume. We as free Americans and New Mexicans should have access to all the information, to make our own choices, to decide what food is good for us and what isn't, and as far as right now, we don’t really know what is safe to eat anymore. Let’s change the way these foods are labeled in New Mexico, to show the rest of the country what is really going on, and so we can gain some knowledge as to how these foods are really being made now, in our state and everywhere else. I thank you for taking the time to read my letter, and I really do hope you find out for yourself how conventional foods are processed and how it affects you, as well as what we can all do to change the way food is labeled for our families, our children, our health, and our home.

Sincerely and Respectfully,

Natural deodorants review: which one really works.

Why would anyone change over from a deodorant and antiperspirant to an all natural deodorant? It is a good question, and the reason why so many people are changing over to alternative deodorants is because of specific ingredients in regular antiperspirant deodorants that can cause toxicity to organs and has been named a key cause of breast cancer and Alzheimer disease (as well as other neurological diseases).  The ingredients I am referring to are aluminum that can come with a few different names, (Aluminum Chlorohydrate or Alumium Zirconium ) as well as Paraben (Propylparaben), which is used as a preservative in all sorts of products besides just antiperspirant deodorants.

When I did finally change over from toxic to non-toxic I had to find out the hard way that not all deodorants work especially the all natural ones, so I definitely had some searching to do. I ended up trying five alternative deodorants and only one really worked for me in the end, and is the one I will continue to use till I find one better. So after almost six months of being truly stinky even through the entire summer no less, here is my review of natural deodorants.

#1

  • The first one I tried was Jason Calming Lavender Pure Natural Deodorant Stick.

Price from link: $9.40 at time written

It is a great smelling deodorant but did not really stand up to an all day sweating, and stopped working after a few hours. The one thing I did not like about this one is that it leaves an odd waxy residue that feels weird on the skin, but did smell nice for a while until I actually started sweating after a few hours,  and then I just ended up smelling like lavender and BO combined in the end on this one.

#2
  • The second one I tried I was really hoping would work, as I heard so much hype about this particular product and company called the Crystal Body Deodorant Stick.

Price from link: $5.15 at time written

I must say that this thing did not work at all as the instructions tell you to wet the crystal during application, and it just ended up smelling salty after application. It did not work and  again I ended up smelling like BO with a little saltiness on the side this time and did not work much sooner than expected. I would not recommend wasting money on this stick that does not seem to work in the slightest.

#3
  • The third one I had tried was from the same company, because as I had said I had heard good things about this company so I figured I would try their Crystal Essence Mineral Deodorant Roll-On with Lavender & White Tea.

Price from link: $10.19 at time written

The fact that this deodorant was a roll-on should have been an indication it wouldn't work (I hate roll-ons especially if I haven't shaved for a day or two and get hair or skin caught in the role part, which pinches the hell out of you and hurts a surprising amount).
It actually smells pretty decent, but being a salt mineral based deodorant just like the stick form it just did not work, concluding that there was a total combination of BO, lavender, and saltiness, which was pretty discouraging and disappointing at this point in my search.

#4

  • This time I went with something completely different mainly because my friend got it for me at an herbal store so I thought I would check it out even though it was another dreaded roll-on product. It is an algae based deodorant from Home Health called Herbal Magic Roll-On Deodorant.

Price from link: $7.98 at time written

This deodorant stays wet on the skin for a while and seems to stay that way till you start to sweat anyway. Smells okay but doesn't get the job done. Also this one gave me a bit of a rash, but everyone is different though when trying these sorts of things.

#5       THE WINNER
  • Finally lucky #5 was the winner, well at least for now till I find a better one, which is from Queen Helene called Mint Julep Deodorant Stick.

Price from link: $5.63 at time written

This particular deodorant finally worked for me. It is copper complex based deodorant and had a low toxicity rating in the environmental working groups cosmetic database website. Smells kind of weird at first, but you get used to it because above all else, this deodorant actually worked for me and was the most decently priced.

Conclusion

I hope after reading my deodorant products review you were able to get something out of it and that you are able to find a decently priced natural deodorant that actually works for you. If anyone has anymore suggestions on deodorants that actually work and are decently priced please put your experiences in the comments below. Information is key to knowing what is in the food and products we all use, and will help all of us to live and lead happier and healthier lives to share this knowledge with everyone. Introduction & Purpose

Hello Everyone :)

This being my very first blog ever, I just wanted explain what exactly it is I will be writing about here @ alternativelyhealthyliving. As an individual who has admittedly jumped on the bandwagon to the natural and healthy living movement that has been going on, I have become accustomed to having to find specific products that meet my needs. Needs such as; fair trade products, the least toxic products, cheaper alternatives to more expensive and well known products, and products that just work better, taste better, or have the most natural ingredients. So I will be writing on alternative and organic products and the reasons why we should all care about what it is we are consuming. These blogs specifically will be on the types of products that should be avoided for a healthier lifestyle and what organic products seem to work best for myself.

All I know is every time I find out about the toxic crap in a specific product I use I then have to go on a search for a better, cheaper, and more natural alternative to that product. Every time this seems to be a venture into trying all sorts of new products, so I figured why not give all of you my input and what I found to be the best and why.

You probably know where I am coming from if you have ever been on a search for a decent working natural deodorant for instance, and you ended up having to spend large amounts of money just to find out which ones actually in fact work and doesn't make you stink like a musty hippie. If this is the case then you also probably know my pain as well when it comes to finding a decently priced concealer, foundation, or face cream that isn't full of health ruining toxic chemicals.

I hope to inform people just like myself that are new to alternative healthy living and are also trying out new products, because it really is nice sometimes to have a little input about what is really safe to use, what actually works, and what is going to be cheapest for you. I also hope to get other peoples input too, so anyone that wants to give any info on products worth using please speak up in the comments on blogs to come. In conclusion here's to having many conversations and informing everyone with my blog products research.
